End the year with a good deed

Or start with a New Year’s resolution to make the world a better place. The Russians are not sparing children and schools in Ukraine. Tens of thousands of children are studying in shelters, in metro stations they think are safe, or trying to get online to join their school’s education programme. But around 30% of children who have fled abroad are unable to attend school at all, and our surveys show that this is also true in Hungary. They do not have the tools to participate in online education, and without language skills they cannot learn effectively in an average Hungarian school. A whole generation is missing out on education and social life at school.

Since April 2022, MigAid has been running a project in Budapest called Learning Without Borders (LWB), which supports the learning and physical and psychological development of Ukrainian children. Not only are these children safe with us, but we can also provide them with a mother tongue environment where they can learn Hungarian, English – preparing them and their parents to face the challenges of the Hungarian education system.

A new feature of 2023 was the distribution of laptops to 500 Ukrainian children, courtesy of an American sponsor, to enable them to join the Learn & Earn online learning programme in the US.

We are looking for sponsors for another school year

The LWF only has the budget to run for this school year, so we need to start fundraising now to keep it running from the summer. With your support we can help children who have fled to us from Ukraine to learn and make friends in safety. We can provide 1 day of school and full board (free canteen) for a child for 3.000 HUF. You can help a lot just by supporting a child’s day care for a few months.
